Antwerp eyes eight rough tenders in January
Antwerp is hosting eight rough diamond tenders throughout January, reflecting continued trading activity in the diamond sector amid the Covid-19 pandemic, revealed the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
In 2020, the city held nearly 100 tenders and sold more than 10.5 million carats of rough diamonds despite business and travel restrictions.
“Antwerp’s diamond office remained operational and there was constant consultation with shipping companies and airlines to ensure goods could continue to be shipped,” said Karen Rentmeesters, spokesperson for the AWDC.
Antwerp is a major diamond trading centre, with massive amounts of diamonds sold and shipped in and out of the city annually.
In 2019, total volume of rough diamonds traded in Antwerp was 184 million carats valued at US$17 billion.
