Israel sees hefty growth in diamond trade
Diamond trade in Israel recorded robust growth in all categories as of July, signalling sustained recovery in the sector, data from the country’s Ministry of Economy and Industry showed.
Polished diamond imports in the first seven months of the year totalled US$1.63 billion, up 145 per cent over the same period in 2020. Polished diamond exports meanwhile reached US$2.02 billion, 69 per cent higher from last year.
Rough imports stood at US$1.15 billion, an increase of 158 per cent from 2020 figures while rough exports rose 229 per cent to US$1.05 billion.
Aviel Elia, Israel Diamond Institute’s managing director, commented, “We have seen major growth during this year and we can be proud of the quick recovery of the Israeli diamond industry. I believe that the industry will continue its growth trend, led by active demand for diamonds in the US and China.”
