A stunning assortment of eight fancy blue diamonds, collectively valued more than US$70 million, will be offered at Sotheby’s in Geneva, New York and Hong Kong.

The De Beers Exceptional Blue Collection, revered for the diamonds’ superb hues, even colour distribution and saturation, is one of the rarest and most notable group of fancy colour diamonds in the world.

The gems, expertly sourced and assembled by De Beers Group and crafted into works of art by Diacore, will be sold across the company’s Magnificent Jewels auctions this year and throughout the Spring of 2023.

Sotheby’s has sold some of the most coveted fancy blue diamonds in auction history, including the De Beers Blue, a 15.10-carat step-cut fancy vivid blue diamond, which fetched US$57.5 million in April 2022.

Olivier Wagner, head of Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels Auctions in Geneva, said, “The market for coloured diamonds and precious gemstones has never been stronger, so we are absolutely thrilled to be offering the first diamond of this superb collection as one of the star highlights of our Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction next month in Geneva.”

The collection consists of eight phenomenal blue diamonds of various shapes and weights totalling 32.09 carats, ranging in size from a 1.22-carat oval brilliant-cut to a 11.29-carat step-cut diamond.

Three of these exceptional diamonds will be offered this year: The 5.53-carat De Beers Exceptional Blue, valued at US$11 million to US$15 million, as one of the stars of Sotheby’s Magnificent and Nobles Jewels auction in Geneva on November 9; and the 3.24-carat De Beers Exceptional Blue, valued at US$5 million to US$8 million; and the 2.08-carat De Beers Exceptional Blue, valued at US$1.2 million to US$1.5 million, to be offered in the December 7 auction of Magnificent Jewels in New York.
