Fancy-Color Price Index Holds Steady in Second Quarter
Prices of fancy-color
diamonds slipped 0.1% in the second quarter as growth in
pinks managed to mostly offset slight dips in blues and yellows, according to
the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).
Pink prices grew 0.1% in the three months that ended June 30,
following a 0.3% decline in the previous quarter, the FCRF
said Monday. Performance was positive across most small and mid-sized stones,
with 2-carat and 3-carat pink
diamonds each rising by 0.6%, while 1-carat
and 1.5-carat stones increased 0.4%
each. Fancy-vivid pink diamonds recorded the strongest result, up 0.5%. Fancy-pinks grew 0.1% and
fancy-intense pinks fell 0.1%.
The fancy-blue segment
slid 0.4%, down from the 0.3%
decrease noted in the first quarter. Blue diamonds weighing 1
carat were up 0.7%, while 5-carat
stones were flat. However, those weighing 2 carats
declined 1.3%, with 3 carats falling 0.7% and 1.5 carats slipping 0.2%.
Fancy-vivid blue diamonds weighing 1 carat were the
strongest, growing 1.5%. Overall, fancy-vivid blue climbed
0.1%, but fancy blues and fancy-intense blues each
declined by 0.6%.
Yellow fancy-color
prices decreased 0.3% overall, flat from the previous
three months. By size, 3-carat yellow diamonds saw the
strongest increase, up 0.7%, in contrast to the 1.5-carat and 2-carat diamond categories,
which both saw drops of 0.1%. Fancy-vivid yellows rose 0.1%, while fancy yellows slipped by the same amount.
Fancy-intense yellow diamonds were down 1.3%.
“Overall,
the second-quarter results point to a market that remained broadly stable, with
modest gains and declines distributed unevenly across individual categories,”
the FCRF said. “The overall index showed virtually no movement, while
differences by color, size and intensity continued to shape performance within
the market. The data does not indicate a broad directional shift, but rather a
continuation of selective pricing adjustments across specific segments.”
