India’s diamond exports retain sparkle in Feb
India’s polished diamond exports were up 27 per cent in February 2021, demonstrating a continued strengthening of the country’s diamond sector.
According to the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), shipments of cut and polished diamonds during the month in review reached US$1.75 billion from US$1.38 billion during the same period in 2020.
Polished imports however declined by 11.57 per cent. Overall gemstone and jewellery exports were also on the downswing in February, recording a 10 per cent decline while imports dipped by 24.34 per cent, GJEPC data showed.
India meanwhile is making strides in the polished lab-grown diamond category, with a 57.09 per cent growth between April 2020 and February 2021.
Silver jewellery exports from April 2020 to February 2021 likewise increased, showing a growth of 39.10 per cent while platinum jewellery shipments rose 47.24 per cent during the period in review.
