GJEPC, eBay launch exclusive online jewellery shop
The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has partnered with e-commerce giant eBay in setting up an online jewellery store exclusively for the council’s members.
With a “Make in India for the World” tagline, the online shop on eBay is aimed at helping jewellery exporters including micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and brands boost their online jewellery sales.
It is also expected to provide market research and insights apart from business development support. According to GJEPC, eBay has 183 million active buyers as of the second quarter of 2020 and more than 15,000 Indian sellers – a potential market for GJEPC members.
Colin Shah, chairman of GJEPC, commented, “This is an opportunity for all jewellery manufacturers to showcase their products to existing buyers on eBay. The collaboration among eBay, India and GJEPC is a step towards facilitating online gems and jewellery exports and drive the vision of ‘Digital India’ forward.”
He also cited rising demand for gem and jewellery exports, which highlights the importance of online sales in business growth.
Other benefits to GJEPC members include: Participation in marketing events organised by eBay; registration support; eBay seller protection; access to an exclusive promotional landing page where GJEPC members can showcase their products; and store design and cataloguing.
GJEPC is organising interactive sessions with a prospective seller base to thoroughly discuss the onboarding process on eBay. It has scheduled a series of webinars on diamond jewellery and coloured gemstone sellers; gold jewellery, loose diamonds, diamond jewellery and fashion jewellery in the coming weeks.
