Jewellers whose stores are still open wait to hear if tougher rules will force them to close again
Boris Johnson is reportedly set to make a quick decision today about whether England should enter a third national lockdown.
The move would close all non-essential retail across the country, with similar measures possible across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
While the majority of England is already in Tier 4, with only essential retailers allowed to remain open, areas like Cornwall, Devon and Yorkshire are currently in Tier 3, with shops such as jewellery retailers still permitted to operate with Covid safety measures in place.
This news comes after the rapid spread of the new ‘variant’ Covid strain which reports have stated is more contagious.
It is hoped that as the winter ends and the use of vaccines ramps up, these measures will begin to be eased.
After opposition leader Kier Starmer criticised Boris Johnson’s lack of action over a third lockdown thus far, the Prime Minister admitted in an interview with the BBC yesterday that more restrictions may be incoming.
“It may be that we need to do things in the next few weeks that may be tougher,” he said .”I’m fully reconciled to that – I think the whole country is fully reconciled to that.”
