De Beers Group is now letting companies across the diamond value chain join its traceability platform Tracr. Brilliant Earth has signed up, joining the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and Gemological Science International (GSI) on the scaled diamond provenance and traceability programme.

Tracr was previously limited to De Beers production. Businesses that meet the minimum criteria, including membership in the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), can now participate in the platform. Once their onboarding process is complete, they can use Tracr to upload and view provenance and traceability information about their diamonds.

De Beers Institute of Diamonds has also launched the Origin suite of services, which offers digitally enabled storytelling about the origin and impact of a natural diamond discovered by De Beers. Expanding the Code of Origin programme piloted in 2022, this includes new Origin and Grading Reports as well as a digital look-up to connect clients with the origin and impact of their diamond.

De Beers is also developing Origin Story, which will provide immersive digital storytelling. The entire Origin suite of services is powered by Tracr.

“Following years of investment and digital innovation, De Beers is proud to open Tracr to applications from the diamond industry. With more than half of De Beers' production by value being registered on the platform, we are already seeing the power of Tracr to enable manufacturers and retailers to trade with confidence, and our clients to purchase with pride,” said Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group.

The diamond blockchain platform has registered more than one million rough diamonds at source and 110,000 diamonds at the manufacturer level securely on their dedicated Tracr instances.
