Fancy colour diamonds lead Phillips’ HK sale
Blue, yellow and orangey-pink diamonds were the stars of
Phillips’ latest auction in Hong Kong, demonstrating sustained demand for
exceptional fancy colour diamonds.
Phillips’ Hong Kong Jewels Auction, held on October 5, 2023,
generated a total of HK$27 million (approximately US$3.4 million), with 73 out
of the 95 lots offered being sold.
The top lots were a 1.63-carat fancy intense blue diamond ring,
which fetched HK$7.4 million (US$942,848); a pair of 9.69-carat and 9.71-carat
fancy intense yellow diamond and diamond earrings, which sold for HK$4.2
million (US$536,448); and a 5.41-carat fancy orangey-pink diamond and diamond
ring, which was snapped up for HK$3.3 million (US$422,652).
Benoît Repellin, Worldwide Head of Jewellery, and Louisa Chan,
Head of Sale, Hong Kong, Phillips Jewels, said, “The Hong Kong Jewels Auction
this season reaffirmed the strength of the market for rare and important fancy
colour diamonds across the board, with top three pieces sold were coloured
diamonds.”
The sale also saw strong online bidding activity, with 35 per cent of lots sold to online bidders.
