Prices of fancy colour diamonds grew 0.2 per cent across all categories in the second quarter of 2021 as supply remains tight, the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) reported.

Data from the Q2 2021 Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) showed that blue and pink diamond prices inched up 0.4 per cent and 0.3 per cent, respectively. Prices of yellow diamonds meanwhile rose 0.1 per cent from a slight decrease in the previous quarter.

FCRF said 1-carat fancy pink diamonds registered the sharpest price increase of 2.2 per cent while bigger stones of 10 carats saw a price decline of 1.1 per cent. Prices of blue diamonds of 1.5 and 2 carats in all saturations soared by 1.3 percent while most yellow segments performed better in Q2 compared to Q1.

FCRF Advisory Board member Oren Schneider commented, “As retail in the US, Asia and Europe copes with the new realities and constraints of a Covid-economy, we are still seeing supply shortages in the fancy colour diamond segment that provide pricing stability. Inventories are still at a historically low level for this product.”
