August Jewelry Sales Up 5%, Driven by Higher Average Transactions
MONTHLY SALES
PERFORMANCE
August delivered
continued year-over-year sales growth for retail jewelers, with gross sales
increasing 5% compared to August 2025. Unit movement was softer, with units
sold down 8%, while average retail sale increased 14%. The key takeaway is that
sales growth was supported primarily by higher average transaction values.
Retail jewelers sold fewer items overall, but the increase in average retail
sale helped keep gross sales in positive territory.
Category Performance
All category results
compare August 2026 to August 2025.
Diamond jewelry was up
8% in sales, despite a 9% decline in units sold. Average retail sale increased
18%, helping offset softer unit movement.
Colored stone and
pearl jewelry increased 4% in sales, while units sold declined 14%. Average
retail sale rose 21%, making higher average values the key driver of growth.
Sterling silver and
alternative metal jewelry was down 5% in sales, with units sold down 19% and
average retail sale up 17%. The increase in average retail
sale was not enough to
offset the sharper decline in units sold.
Overall Vibe
August reflected a
softer but still positive sales environment compared to last year. Higher
average retail sale remained the main factor supporting performance, while unit
softness was evident across the highlighted jewelry categories. For retail
jewelers, continued attention to traffic, conversion, and consistent
clienteling will be important to keeping customers engaged and maintaining
sales activity.
