Strong market demand continued to support prices of fancy colour diamonds in the third quarter of 2022, with yellow diamonds registering the highest price increase.

According to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), average prices tracked using the Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) were up 1 per cent across all fancy colour diamond colours and sizes.

This growth contrasted with white diamond prices, which dipped 6.7 per cent during the period in review.

Eden Rachminov, FCRF board member, commented, “The index results reflect price changes in cushion-shaped diamonds with average visual characteristics. From what I have seen, the price of stones with high-quality visual properties and shapes that are in high demand has increased even higher than what is reflected in the graphs.”

Overall prices of fancy yellow diamonds rose 1.4 per cent in Q3, followed by pink diamond prices, which grew 0.9 per cent. Blue diamond prices meanwhile saw a 0.6 per cent increase.

Fancy vivid diamonds across all colour categories exhibited the highest increase at 1.8 per cent, led by fancy vivid pinks of 8 carats at 5.5 per cent and fancy vivid yellows at 4 per cent.

The FCDI is published by FCRF, a non-profit organisation that tracks pricing data for yellow, pink and blue fancy colour diamonds in Hong Kong, New York, Geneva and Tel Aviv.
